Was that a conversation you had with them at all? I Wrote This for Attention is gay, painful, and reflective, covering his search for a sense of self as a young gay boy, his relationship with drugs and ego, and finally entering adulthood.

And it was refreshing to read a book that [seemed like] a love story about her friendships, not about her partners.

I think everyone, when they first read it, was a little bit scared that they were going to be villainized or they were going to be painted in a bad way. Of all the things that made it into his memoir, our day together did not. Vogue : I just finished reading your book—as in, four minutes ago.

When you start writing a memoir, do you think of other memoirs? As in, Julia did thisDemi did that…. And it was a conversation I had to have. In a cultural moment where vulnerability is often curated and identity is endlessly jordimassive gay, Lukas Gage is choosing something braver: pure honesty.
I think what comes to mind is what worked and which ones stuck with me. Lukas Gage is living his true authentic life like never before. You expect it at the beginning of a memoir, but a lot of people, particularly celebrities, then move on.
